The Paramathma is supposed to have abducted Radha who reached out to him to escape from an undesirable alliance that had been arranged for her. The Paramathma is supposed to have had 16,000 wives.
The moral issues often raised are:
Did Krishna do the right thing by attracting Gopis who were already married?
Does the interplay between Sri Krishna and the Gopis not violate moral behaviour?
The only meaning that this can possibly have is that 16,000 of his dedicated devotees were from the feminine gender, and all of them connected to him through intense mental feeling of Pure LOVE for him. This Love represented a mental yearning and had no physical or earthly connotations attached to it.
In times gone by, Women were essentially excluded from Vedic rituals. "Gnanam" was restricted to the menfolk. The women were essentially confined to housekeeping and child bearing related functions. So their minds are natuarally attuned to the receipt of and giving of love and affection.
In addition, women are naturally oriented towards romaticization of events, and take an artistic view of events.
THE PARAMATHMA USES HIS HANDSOME PHYSICAL APPEARANCE, HIS INFINITE STRENGTH, AND SPIRITUAL LUMINESCENCE TO CAPTIVATE THE GOPI's MINDS......AND ONLY MINDS.
THEIR PLAYFUL INTERLUDES, THE DANCES AND THE ROMANTIC INTERLUDES ARE ALL ONLY IN THE MINDS OF THE GOPIS.
Women live life largely throught the emotional side of intelligence. Humor, laughter, sentiment, happiness and love are the emotions and feelings that come naturally to women. This is because they are born as mothers first and foremost, and the only way their intelligence can connect to the child is through these emotions and feelings. Even after the child grows up, these sentiments continue to dominate the outlook of women.
IN FACT, KANNAN's RADHA IS ONLY THE REFERANCE TO THE HUMAN MIND - WHETHER MALE OR FEMALE. THE PARAMATHMA's EFFORT IS TO ENTICE THE HUMAN MIND WITH THE TUNES OF LIFE THAT EMANATE FROM HIS FLUTE.
To recap a bit, the entire purpose of the journey of life is to evolve from a state of transcience to a state of permenance. This permenance is attained by surrendering the control of the mind to the Paramathma.
Consequently, the only way the Paramathma, in his human avathar could turn the women to the correct path was through the path of Love and affection for him. So that their thoughts would be filled with him all the time. The only expectation from the Paramathma is devotion. Given that the Paramathma is above and beyond this world of pleasure and pain, there could have been no other motive. Nor can there be any question of a "personal" relationship as between fellow human beings.
THE GOPIS ATTAIN THIS STATE OF COMPLETE SURRENDER BY THE CONSTANT ROMANTIC FIXATION OF THEIR MINDS ON THE PARAMATHMA.
This is essentially what the Rishis also try to attain through intense tapas.
This is why our Puranans very rarely refer to a feminine Rishi as attaining or attempting to attain moksham through intense Tapas. This is the primary reason that the Paramathma is described as connecting to the devoted Gopis throught pure love and playfullness.
There can be no other meaning or interpretation of the episode relating to te Gopis and the Paramathma
The Paramathma is even supposed to have married Jambavan's (a bear) daughter. This clearly conveys that the Paramathma is connected to and is the living force who resides within all living beings.
It is our inability to look beyond our own selves that constraints us from comprehending and distinguishing a meta physical from a physical relationship. A physical relationship evaporates in the bat of an eyelid. A relationship with the Paramthma is permenant and never wavers.
