Slokam 9
The Gopas hearing the thud of the fallen trees rush to the spot to see what disaster had occurred. Nandagopa, seeing the Parmathma tied to the mortar, recognizes that Yashoda went too far in “punishing” the Parmathma !!!!! No one correlates the trees falling because the Paramathma dragged the rock between the tree trunks and pulled them down. They are all thankful that the tree fall, which they thought occurred at the same time as the Paramathma went through the trees did not hurt Him. Yashoda was clearly embarrassed that she had put little Sri Krishna in great danger, by giving went to her anger and in her anxiety to “punish” Him.
The slokam implies that we assume we have the knowledge of the events on this Earth. We assume that the trees fell because of old age and decay. The slokam brings home the message that regardless of whether we know it or not, behind every event that occurs in the universe, is the hand of the Paramathama. There is a whole bunch of behind the scenes action that takes place behind the manifestation of every little action that we observe.
May we be aware of the Hand of the Paramathma is discerning the cause behind every perception that we have of this world.
Sri Bhattadri points out that the Paramathma, who liberates everyone of us from bondage had to be released from the physical bondage to the mortar!!! The Paramathma can never be bound by what are His creations. He alone binds Himself and He alone releases Himself. There needs to be no doubt in our minds that everything that we perceive and the instrument of perception (which we think of as the mind) are but the manifestations of the Paramathma Himself. Once we realize this fundamental truth about ourselves, we will naturally stumble on the question as to where we come into the picture!!!! With this awareness begins our journey on the path of self realization.
