Slokam 1
Sri Bhattadri refers to the Paramathma as the omni pervasive one. This is a very important reference. The Paramathma, in the formof universal consciousness, permeates every nook and corner of this universe. Our own awareness, our Jivatma is only His manifestation. Our sense of ownership over our identity will vanish once we recognize that our consciousness is the Paramathma’s presence within us. He is the compassionate observer within us.
His awareness and supervision of the activity of our inner self, including the mind and its components, should be our tool of control over ourselves. All the adharmic and improper behavior happens only when we think that no one will know what we are up to.
If we are perennially aware that we are under the Paramathma’s observation, we will not do anything that is adharmic. This awareness that the Paramathma is indeed the omnipresent and pervasive one will also help us to resolve all the conflicts within us.
Whenever we feel lustful or greedy or passionate about anything, all we have to do is to think of the Paramathma within us, that is ever observing our every move. Immediately the instinct to go on the wrong path will vanish. When we hold the Paramathma within us as the universal observer we can easily surrender ourselves to Him. Staying on the assigned path without deviation becomes possible only we assign ownership and responsibility of all our actions to Him.
More importantly, all our actions flow from our thought process. It is of utmost importance to assign our thought process to the Paramathma. We cannot control our thoughts if our false identity or ego takes control of the mind. If we allow our false identity or Ahankara to rule the mind, then the instruments of ahankara, which are greed and lust will also step in. Along with greed and lust will come fear and insecurity. We will be completely lost and we will be destroyed.
Control of the mind is not possible without the surrender of our very source of thoughts to the Paramathma. The surrender will not happen unless we know our scriptures and ithihasas, as well as perform everyday prayers. Surrender involves a great amount of discipline, and most importantly it requires complete trust and acceptance of the supreme.
Sri Bhattadri acknowledges Sage Garga as an expert in astrological sciences. The Sage is requested by Vasudeva to perform the naming ceremony in absolute secrecy.
The Slokam points out that the naming rites are performed for one who is above all rituals and rites. The very protector and sustainer of the universe is being invoked for His own protection. The slokam mentions with amusement that the Paramathma who is way above and beyond all actions like rites, was being subjected to them.
May we ever be aware of the conscious oversight of the Paramathma in our very motivation behind thoughts and action.
May we ever dedicate the deepest roots of our thought process to the Paramathma.
