Slokam 8
The women, true to their protective nature towards children, were worried that the Paramathma might have hurt his delicate legs like tender shoots red in color, were hurt and whether the hands like lotus have been fractured. They caressed the limbs of His body, as mothers are prone to do to comfort the child and gain assurance that all is well.
A mother’s soft caressing has a healing effect on the mind and on the body and has no parallel in terms of reassuring the child that the protective cover is standing by.
No matter what the calamity, the mother within each woman comes to the forefront to rehabilitate and get the injured to recover and get back on their feet. This is mother nature’s designated role for women. There is an instinctive understanding in women that prioritizes physical and mental well being over everything else.
The woman of each house, is the representation of goddess Lakshmi. She brings physical and material well being. The man’s role is to discharge his karma, so that the material needs of the family are met. The Lakshmi of the house vests in the man of the house, the strength and energy to discharge his karma and earn the livelihood to sustain the family.
The family relationships are intricately woven. These must never be disregarded or broken.
The roles in modern times have become diffused. Women are taking over the function of the bread winner and men are looking after the household. This mix up may not be conducive for the well being of the children, and the adults themselves.
May we ever strive to perform our assigned roles without transgressing on the territory of others. May we ever, like the residents of Vraja consider the community as being one family and render service for the well being of all.
