Slokam 7
The adults that had gathered there could not believe the words of the children, since they were not familiar with the identity or powers of the Paramathma.
They doubted the story of the children as useless illusions emanating from frightened and confused minds. The “rationality” embedded within us adults “calculates” strength of the child and comes to the conclusion that it is not possible for the strength within a child to destroy a cart that is not only made of heavy blocks of wood , that are bound together to withstand heavy loads and bumps on the pathways of travel.
Those like Nanda who had seen what had happened to Puthana, earlier, did not entirely dismiss the possibility. The implication is that even Nanda, who had seen the Puthana episode earlier, could not accept, without a doubt, the eye witness account of the children.
Even though we experience the miracles of the Paramathma repeatedly in our lives, doubt about the source of the miracles, still persists.
Rationality within us dismisses the possibility of existence beyond the perception of worldly objects. Rationality limits our strength to muscular size and capability. Rationality limits our mind to dwell in the world of cause and effect, and in the world of opposites. Rationality limits our universe to the perception of the senses.
Rationality has its purpose of enabling everyday material life. Its scope does not extend beyond that. We cannot apply rationalization to matters beyond the senses. We cannot apply rationalization to the process of self realization.
Like the adults of Vraja dismissing the capability of a Child being able to destroy the cart, we dismiss the possibility of;
· Eternity
· Freedom from births and deaths
· Causeless existence and action
· Being without a beginning or end
· A world beyond the opposites.
When we are skeptical about even the remote possibility of the above attributes, we are dismissing the Paramathma Himself as a possibility, because these attributes are His very qualities.
May we ever be like children with purity of mind and consciousness and openness to learning and acceptance.
May we work towards understanding the role, functionality, utility and scope of the different attributes of our mind and not extend its tools to use to matters of consciousness and realization.
