Slokam 2
Yashoda leaves behind a few children to take care of the Paramathma. After a while, the children are seen running about, shouting in fear. A huge cracking noise of trees falling and breaking into innumerable pieces is heard.
The Paramathma could be left in the care of children, without the fear of miscreants abducting the child. Yashoda, and everyone else is blissfully unaware of the dangers posed by the demons of Kamsa. It is a clear reflection of the tranquil existence that was prevalent
In contrast in our daily modern life, we are very conscious of the innumerable threats to our existence. We live in perpetual anticipation of disaster striking in the form of disease, financial crisis, career disruptions etc. There is no consistency or permanence in any aspect of modern existence. Life is lead in fear and insecurity.
From our own life experiences, we all know that only when we sit for meditation to invoke the Paramathma, that’s when all the fears and negativity of this world also invades our minds. When we are engaged in normal activity of this world, we tend to forget all our worries and problems. We tend intoxicate ourselves with socializing, entertainment, work and attachment to family to forget the real task on our hands
This is very much akin to the residents of Vraja suddenly experiencing the demons despatched by Kamsa. The experience of life are exactly a reflection of what goes on in our minds.
Vraja (व्रज) refers to:—The one hundred and sixty-eight square mile tract of land where Śrī Kṛṣṇa enacted His earthly pastimes. (cf. Glossary page from Śrī Bṛhad-bhāgavatāmṛta).
is why, it is a pre-requisite to kill all the demons of greed, lust and anger and then surrender our pure untainted self to the Paramathma.
The longer that we stay away from the path, the more the number of demons that will occupy our minds in various forms.
May we ever be aware of the demons within us that torment us into submission and defeat us from pursuing the path to moksham.
