Slokam 8
The slokam says that the Paramathma sucked her breasts, not only to extract the poison, but her very life with it. Putana is caught by complete surprise. She crashes to the ground with a thunderous noise and her hands stretched out, displaying her true form as a demoness.
At the point of departure from this body, all our attachment and pretentions are discarded. This is the point in our lives, when our level of attainment becomes apparent. This is the point when remenants of our attachments to this world It is at this point that we are required to firmly fix our mind and consciousness at the feet of the Paramathma. We cannot do this unless we are devoid of attachments and desires.
Putana, Hiranyakshipu, Hiranyaksha etc were fortunate to die at the hands of the Paramathma. They died fighting Him. So they had nothing on their minds except the Paramathma himself. Although they were in hatred of and in confrontation with the Paramathma, still there was nothing else on their mind, except Him. The Paramathma has said repeatedly in the Ithihasas, that there are two paths to Bhakti – one through love of Him and the other through hatred and animosity towards Him. In both paths, we would have only thoughts of the Paramathma.
The path through hatred is known as Sambhrama Yoga. It has the same result of merging the ”devotee” with the Paramathma.
May we ever seek attainment of the Paramathma without looking for worldly recognition.
