Slokam 4
Shiva Perumal is said to take mother earth and the devas to the shores of the ocean of milk. There is said to be blowing on the shores of the ocean of milk, a cool breeze that sets a conducive environment for tapas. Our consciousness, as the ocean of milk, is the ideal residence for meditative effort. Being situated in our consciousness, we are devoid of contradictions and conflict. The “environment” in the consciousness is set to ensure absolute receptive concentration on the paramathma.
The slokam clearly states that “reaching the shores of the ocean of milk, rendered cool by the breeze, fixed their mind in concentration on You.’
Brahma, having set his unmitigated concentration on the Paramathma, is said to hear the Paramathma’s voice within him. Brahma then gleefully announces the Paramathma’s message that is flashed to him.
When we meditate on Shiva Perumal, we also do get the message that he transmits. We may not be able actually hear the message or see visions, but the answers will always percolate into our mind, as long as we keep it open in an unbiased manner . The primary purpose of tapas is to keep the mind open to receive messages. This accomplishment takes an immense effort, probably spread over many lifetimes.
The ability to connect with the Paramathma, consciously, requires Shiva Perumal to take us to the residence in the consciousness. That is a rigorous effort requiring compliance with steady adherence to prescribed spiritual practices.
May we tread this path of transcendence step by step to attain ultimate union with the supreme.
