Slokam 7
In slokam 1, we learn that as the son of sage Atri and Anasuya, the Paramathma’s devotee and disciple was Karthaveeryarjuna. It had been decided during that birth that Karthaveeryarjuna on whom the Paramathma had endowed eight varieties of prosperity and endowed on him the boon that he would die at the hands of the Paramathma only.
That made Karthaveeryarjuna powerful and invincible to anyone other than the Paramathma. It also resulted in the battle that ultimately leads the Paramathma in the form of Parasurama to decimate all kshatriyas.
Karthaveeryarjuna is said to have an immense army. Among his forces are said to be seventeen Akshauhinis.
Akshauhinis is identified as 21870 Chariots, 21870 Elephants, 65610 Horses and 109350 foot soldiers. Apart from this Karthaveeryarjuna also has ten thousand sons, numerous commanders and innumerable supporters.
Like Sri Rama and Sri Lakshmana, Parasurama also destroys the opposing forces singlehandedly. Did not Krishna Paramathma single handedly destroy the Kauravas, (although He made it appear that the small Pandava army destroyed the immense Kaurava army). It is important to note that the Kaurava army was also comprised of Krishna Paramathma’s own forces. Did He not give Duryodhana the option of choosing between Him and His army? Did not Duryodhana choose the Paramathma’s army, rather than the Paramathma?
Duryodhana represents greed and enjoyment of the pleasure of the senses. He trusts in large numbers and physical strength. To him, the Paramathma is one individual. His ahankara does not allow him to perceive the Paramathma as all pervasive. He does not see the power of divinity. To him brute physical force provides all the rewards that he needs. To him, wealth, possession and power are moksham. He cannot see beyond himself.
Parasurama completely decimates Karthaverrarjuna’s army, leaving only the king to take on the fight himself.
The only one that can defeat our inner Duryodhana, Karthaveeryarjuna and their immense armies is the Paramathma.
May we ever invoke his gigantic presence within us, to singlehandedly decimate the pitfalls of the ahnankara, which resides in the physical realm and the senses.
