Slokam 10
The slokam drills down into the true objectives of the Rama avatar of the Paramatma. The slokam identifies misery from attachment to worldly objects as the main hinderance to evolution to higher states of life. Sri Rama demonstrated levels of detachment that would be required to discharge one’s duties dispassionately.
Sri Bhattadri finds the same three decisions/actions of Sri Rama in the instances of Vali, the agni pariksha and finally the physical separation from Sita Devi, as controversial. Sri Bhattadri however accepts the decisions and actions as a demonstration of the negative impact of extreme righteousness. He feels that except for the demonstration of the negative aspects, there can be no justification for giving up as much as Sri Rama did for the sake of establishment of model behaviour.
One may or may not agree with Sri Bhattadri. However, from a leadership perspective, Sri Rama could not done better than what He did for the people of Ayodhya. He did this at great cost and damage to Himself. He is selfless to an extreme level.
Sri Bhattdri mildly admonishes the Paramathma for the extreme level of sacrifice. Sri Bhattadri points out to the Paramathma that one, such as Himself that revels in conscious bliss should not have to be subject to “vagaries of the mind”. Sri Bhattadri basically is admonishing the Paramathma for being harsh to Himself and on those that are near and dear to Him.
However Sri Bhattadri does not point out that the sacrifices of the Paramathma were only for the sake of His people, who should not doubt the value and effectiveness of Dharma.
Sri Bhattadri addresses the Paramathma as the “personified form of all essence of truth”.
May we ever repent the immense difficulty that wecause to our creator by not following the guidelines provided by Him through our Ithihasas and Puramanas. May we ever acknowledge the immense sacrifices of the Paramathma for the establisment of dharma.
