Canto 35
In the Slokams of Canto 35, we are presented with one of the two “controversial” occurrences in Sri Rama’s life. ‘
Shri Hanuman leads Sri Rama and Sri Lakshmana to friendship with Sugriva. This episode of establishing the vanaras as His allies is subject to a lot of discussion and judgmental stances being taken by those reading the Ramayana. There are many that may not like the manner in which Sugriva ascended the throne of Kishkindha. However, the verses in the Ramayana are transparent and provide all the sequences of events in a clear manner and also the explanation of Sri Rama as to why certain actions had to be enacted in the way they were.
Let us look at the “controversy” and draw our own individual conclusions.
Sri Rama, when invoked by us, instantly destroys all demonic forces within us. The ability to invoke the Paramathma is the real and absolute power that we can earn by the effort of tapas. When our internal world is devoid of demonic forces, enlightenment, peace, contentment reign supreme, which in turn prepares and qualifies us for the attainment of moksham.
