Canto 34
Ramayana occurred in the Tretha Yuga. Mahabharatha occurred in the Dwapara yuga. We are now in the Kali Yuga. Srimad Bhagavathma encapsulates the substance of all of the scriptures in Srimad Bhagavatham. Narayaneeyam further extracts the substance of Srimad Bhagavatham. In this Canto 34, the essence of Ramayanam is captured in ten slokams.
To this day, we are attempting to restore the noble values that Sri Rama established as King of Ayodhya. The temple, sought to be constructed in Ayodhya has been disputed for the past few decades. Sri Rama did not find peace as the heir apparent to the throne and as the King of Ayodhya. The glory of His pristine self has been worshipped by all of us since time immemorial. The Ramayana is the first lesson that we all learn from our grandmothers.
The avatar of the Paramathma as Sri Rama was to establish sanathana dharma as the way of life. The personification of Sri Rama as the model of the dharmic way of life has been scripted in puranas, ithihasas, poems, slokams, hymns, and commented upon with great reverence by many great individuals from all walks of life.
As someone who possessed the ideal combination of physical strength, great intelligence, absolute ethical values, there could not have been a better representation of the ideal manhood. Yet he was subject to conflicting situations in the arena of life. He unflinchingly faced every one of them, without ever thinking of abandoning the path of dharma.
The entire sequence of events starting from the birth of Sri Rama to His ascending of the Throne of Ayodhya is condensed in a few lines in the slokams of Canto 34.
The Ramayana is a very powerful ithihasa, the chanting of which immediately brings protection from the hazards of life to the devotee
The slokams of Narayneeyam are a condensation of the essence of the Ithihasas. Chanting them while understanding meaning bestows peace and prosperity on us.
Let us go with Sri Bhattadri as he extols the virtues of this powerful avatar of the Paramathma.
