Canto 32
The retrieval and restoration of the Vedas, which is the foundation and root of all our scriptures, has been the primary reason behind the many avatars of the Paramathma.

The Vedas (/ˈveɪdəz, ˈviː-/;[4]Sanskrit: वेदःvedaḥ, "knowledge") are a large body of texts originating in ancient India. Composed in Vedic Sanskrit, the texts constitute the oldest layer of Sanskrit literature and the oldest scriptures.[5][6]
There are four Vedas: the Rigveda, the Yajurveda, the Samaveda and the Atharvaveda.[7][8] Each Veda has four subdivisions – the Samhitas (mantras and benedictions), the Aranyakas (text on rituals, ceremonies, sacrifices and symbolic-sacrifices), the Brahmanas (commentaries on rituals, ceremonies and sacrifices), and the Upanishads (texts discussing meditation, philosophy and spiritual knowledge).[7][9][10] Some scholars add a fifth category – the Upasanas (worship).[11][12] The texts of the Upanishads discuss ideas akin to the heterodox sramana-traditions.[13]
Vedas are śruti ("what is heard"),[14] distinguishing them from other religious texts, which are called smṛti ("what is remembered"). Hindus consider the Vedas to be apauruṣeya, which means "not of a man, superhuman"[15] and "impersonal, authorless,"[16][17][18] revelations of sacred sounds and texts heard by ancient sages after intense meditation.[19][20]
The Vedas have been orally transmitted since the 2nd millennium BCE with the help of elaborate mnemonic techniques.[21][22][23] The mantras, the oldest part of the Vedas, are recited in the modern age for their phonology rather than the semantics, and are considered to be "primordial rhythms of creation", preceding the forms to which they refer.[24] By reciting them the cosmos is regenerated, "by enlivening and nourishing the forms of creation at their base."[24]
The Vedas constitute the root of all knowledge. The Vedas were always communicated by slokams composed as hymns that were chanted.
The chanting itself, in the correct manner is said to have a significant impact in inducing good vibrations that induce knowledge and ward off ignorance.
One of the great sages of modern times, the Sankarachrya of Kanchi, Sri Chandrasekhara Bharathi, also known as Mahaperiyavva, reestablished the veda patasala, which are the institutions that place the learning of the Vedas at the core of the educational curriculum.
As the Paramacharya Himself demonstrated, knowledge of the vedas is the primary knowledge. All other aspects of life, flow from the knowledge of the Vedas. The Paramacharya has consistently demonstrated his all pervading knowledge over all subjects of learning and all aspects of life, although he may not have had a chance to learn them or perform them.
The vedas are often subject to being “stolen”. The “stealing” is usually depicted as the work of demons. All the demons that took away the vedas did so by spreading adharma. The vedas were always held in the mind/consciousness and chanted. They were never written down. The chanting was in the form of hymns that were rhythmic and poetic, so they could be held in the memory without being lost.
The vedas were not just hymns. The students of the Vedas clearly understood the meaning and intent of the slokams. One of the key outcomes of the learning of the vedas is to connect our consciousness with the eternity, so a permanent channel of communication (which is known as Smriti, or the ability to listen and imbibe), is established. The second aspect that is established within us is the shruti, or the ability to remember and dwell upon in analysis and see the different dimensions and inter-relationships between the different aspects of the knowledge that is imbibed. Shruti is the ability to ponder and use the faculty of the mind to assimilate the information that is received.
Shruti is the very basis of the development of the mind and thought process.
The one who has learnt the vedas will not have any trace of the ego or the false identity. He will forever be on the path of ascendant evolution and the spreading of the knowledge in all the worlds.
It takes over a decade of learning to imbibe the vedas. The vedas invoke the interventions and endowments of the supreme, to help us to stay on the path of evolution. Once the knowledge of the vedas is imbibed, worldly knowledge is bestowed on us without effort. What may otherwise seem complicated and unattainable, is acquired effortlessly.
Mahaperiyavva, on many occasions has displayed vast and intricate knowledge of subjects that he could never have had formal training or tutoring in.
The vedas require intensive training and practice. However, just as easily they can be “stolen” by the compulsions of life, which are the demons that throw a wrench in the works. Just as Sri Rama’s assistance was required by the Rishis to ward of the demons of the forest, that were disturbing the yagnyas, we need the Paramathma’s guidance to ward off the evil forces of worldly temptation from our minds.
