Slokam 1
The captivating swaroopam of Vamana is enchants Bali. Although dimunitive in size, the Paramathma’s radiance and glow is captivating and signals thatthis is not an ordinary being. The glow signifies the effulgence that originates from pure knowledge of the self.
Bali is so overwhelmed by the appearance of divinity the he offers to give whatever Vamana desires, including, food, residence or land or everything.
Bali’s generosity is unmitigated. He does not hold anything back. There are no conditions attached to the offer. It is a plain offer of ask anything and it will be given.
Bali considers himself to be the lord of the three worlds. So he has no lack of resources to offer. However, he has no qualms about offering everything. Not many others in his position would have done so. He is not doing charity in expectation of a return or even recognition. He makes the offer simply because of the overwhelming influence of Vamana’s presence.
The offer that Bali makes is the same offer that everyone of us should be making. Although we may not possess material wealth, the inner wealth that we have earned and maintained must be offered unconditionally. That unconditional offer of the self is the attainment of moksham or oneness with the Paramathma.
May we learn from Bali, to put everything that we have at the feet of the Paramathma.
