Slokam 3
The asuras immediately surrender to the Paramathma in the form of the Mohini. They actually hand over the pot of amrutham to her and give her the power to distribute among the asuras. The value their relationship with the Mohini, more than their evaluation of the worth of the amrutham.
Mohini, in turn, takes the pot from their hands. Just to confirm with them that there is no doubt in the asuras mind about the intent of handing over, the Paramathma, in the form of Mohini asks them as to why they would want to hand over the amrutham to an “unchaste” woman?
The question enhances their confidence even more in the Paramathma’s Mohini swaroopam.
There is no doubt in their minds that Mohini can be trusted, simply because of the appealing demeanor.
The implication is that the maya of the Paramathma is so intense, that the asuras cannot but be overcome by it. The Paramathma, being the master of the universe, can exercise complete control over the behavior of the asuras. He does so, by force when it is required, and by guile when the situation demands.
The asuras are totally transfixed by the appearance of Mohini.
Mohini (Sanskrit: मोहिनी, Mohinī) is a goddess. She is the only female avatar of Maha Vishnu. She is portrayed as a femme fatale, an enchantress, who maddens lovers, sometimes leading them to their doom. Mohini is introduced into the Hindu mythology in the narrative epic of the Mahabharata. Here, she appears as a form of Vishnu, acquires the pot of Amrita (an elixir of immortality) from the thieving asuras (demons), and gives it back to the devas (gods), helping them retain their immortality.
May we curb the asura of greed and desire within us. May we not ever desire to take ownership of what does not belong to us.
